THE 1951 REFUGEE CONVENTION
Are all people who flee actually refugees? At the Migration Museum of Denmark, students will work with the 1951 Refugee Convention, exploring why it was created and whether it is still relevant today. Among other things, they will examine who the Convention actually protects, its advantages and limitations, and draft an updated version of the Convention. Students will explore these and many other questions as they attempt to recreate the process that led to the Convention in 1951. Through a short role-play exercise, they will try to reach agreement on how the Convention should be formulated.
The programme was developed as part of the “Kultur på Vej” project in collaboration with the Museums of Elsinore and Museum Nordsjælland.

MIGRATION
Migration takes many forms – labour migration, migration for love, flight, adventure and forced migration. But what drives people to leave their own country? Through a range of individual stories, students explore different groups of labour migrants and refugees while considering what they themselves would do if they found themselves in similar situations.
The programme is adapted to the age of the target group and to the topic being studied at school.

LECTURES AT YOUR INSTITUTION
The museum also offers lectures at educational institutions. Topics may include, for example, “Refugee Movements Through History”, “The History of Migration in Denmark” and similar subjects.
Duration: 60–90 minutes, depending on your needs.
Price: Free for schools in Furesø Municipality. For other institutions, we follow the rates set by Folkeuniversitetet.
