MIGRATION HISTORY
Migration – moving from one place to another – is a natural condition of human existence and has existed throughout the whole history of humanity. The reasons for leaving one’s home and starting a new life are, however, many. Some move to a new place because of better working conditions and educational opportunities. Others because of love, family and children. And others are forced to move if war, unrest and persecution arise in the area where they live.
Our society, cultural heritage and community are influenced by different immigration and emigration flows, which have taken place throughout time. Migration is indeed an old phenomenon, but still highly relevant to our own time.
Here you can read more about and learn more about some of the people who over the past 500 years have immigrated and emigrated to Denmark and helped to shape our society, history and cultural heritage.
